Work at Mesra
CEMS is all we do — and we've done it for over 15 years. Join the team that keeps emission monitoring at more than 200 Malaysian facilities clean, compliant and connected, from analysers in the field to data arriving at the DOE.
Instrument Technician — Level 1 / Level 2
Full-time · Petaling Jaya, Selangor (with field work nationwide)
Under general supervision of the Operations Manager, you'll install, test, repair, inspect and maintain metering and recording instruments, controlling devices, data logging and display equipment, and communications and telemetry systems. The role covers the full industrial instrumentation and telemetry trade, and you'll often work independently. The position is flexibly staffed: Level 1 technicians are eligible for advancement to Level 2 after three years (or equivalent experience), proficiency in the role and the required certification.
What you'll do
- Install, maintain, repair, calibrate and test industrial instrumentation that records, indicates, controls and regulates level, flow, pressure, temperature, position and process analysis.
- Troubleshoot telemetry and process-controller hardware, and keep a working knowledge of the telemetry system software.
- Carry out preventive maintenance inspections — cleaning, lubricating, calibrating and adjusting instruments before faults become failures.
- Lay out and commission new metering, controlling and recording devices, calibrating as required.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings and specifications; estimate labour and materials; keep records and prepare reports.
- At Level 2: troubleshoot telemetry, SCADA and PLC software and hardware, document changes, and coach and direct less-experienced technicians.
What we're looking for
- Level 1: SPM or equivalent, plus four years' experience at journey level in mechanical, electromechanical or electronic-circuitry repair — at least two of them on industrial instrumentation and control.
- Level 2: SPM or equivalent, plus at least seven years' experience at journey level — at least three of them at a level equivalent to Instrument Technician Level 1 in industry — with working knowledge of PLC and man-machine-interface software and hardware.
- A valid certificate from a certified local institution.
- A valid Class D Malaysian driving licence and a satisfactory driving record.
- Fit for field work: climbing ladders and stairs, working in awkward or confined positions, lifting up to 20 kg, working outdoors in a variety of conditions, and clean-shaven to wear respiratory equipment.
- Willing to work overtime and take standby duty and emergency call-outs.
- Clear communication, accurate record-keeping, and the ability to build effective working relationships.

Internships — always welcome
We welcome internship and industrial-training placements from Malaysian polytechnics, vocational institutions (ILP, ADTEC) and universities — particularly students in instrumentation, electrical and electronic engineering, or environmental technology. Interns work alongside our technicians and engineers on real CEMS installations, calibrations and maintenance visits, not just shadowing.
